This is the qr code for this blog url. Read more about qr codes in wikipedia. As I understand it, a qr code is like a screen print which contains information which can be read and interpreted by your mobile phone. Some phones are bought with a qr code reader. You could download one from the internet, search for 'qr code reader' and your phone details. Keep your eyes open for qr codes around the library, especially on Level 6!

Why you should register for interlibrary loans ... asap!

How many times have you searched for a book on the catalogue, only to find that it is located at a branch library, eg Groenkloof or the Medical Library? Sigh ... you don't want to travel there ... it is out of your way ...

Good news! Register for INTERLIBRARY LOANS! Next time you are in the library, complete a registration form at the Interlibrary Loans office on Level 5, or register online now!

Undergraduate students are allowed to borrow books from branch libraries via interlibrary loans. Postgraduate students can request books from other South African libraries as well. You can also request journal articles from other libraries.

Visit your information specialist for training on interlibrary loans - it is easy.

Find an article ~ Archaeology assignment

Perhaps you need to discuss some case studies and formulate an argument. Use a reference work to find examples to use for case studies. You have already browsed through the books and decided which ones to use. Now you are looking for articles. Go to the library's homepage (by now you know where to find it), click on E resources, and now follow the trail: *use your Roadmap

E-Resources --> Databases A-Z --> Ebscohost --> *Select databases: Academic, Africawide, Humanities, E-Journals continue --> Mark Fulltext option --> continue

Choose Title, type ARCHAEOLOGY, choose title in 2nd row, type "CASE STUDY" OR "CASE STUDIES" --> enter.
You could enter the title of a specific case study.

Study the result list, click on PDF to open document. Download to memory stick or print.
Continue to JSTOR, etc.

6. You decided on the first record. Click on the title Archaeology. The screen on the left will open.
The first book is in use. The second book is in the Study Collection on Level 4.

7. Click on the RETURN TO LIST button to return to the result list, and continue to look at the other records.

8. I suggest that you browse the shelves at 930.1 ... and the Reference Collection at N930 ... to familiarize yourself with the archaeology collection.

" I am looking for a book on archaeology!" (You are not looking for a book on Indiana Jones.)

1. Go to the Library Webpage. If you are in the library, click on Internet Explorer to open the webpage.
2. You can do a keyword search or choose the Catalogue option.

3. Choose title, and View Entire Collection.
4. Type in archaeology.

5. This is the Results list. Decide which records you would like
to access.

Where is the library?

"I am new to the university. At last I found the Humanities Building, where some of my classes are. But WHERE IS THE LIBRARY?"

The Merensky Library is the building opposite the Humanities Building. When you leave the Humanities Building and walk straight ahead you will enter the library.

"Where is the HUMANITIES LIBRARY?"

The Humanities Library is on Level 6. The entrance is on Level 3, you will have to take the stairs or lift to Level 6. On level 6 you will find your Information Specialist (Office 20), the Reference Works, Open Collection and Serials for Humanities. We have photocopy machines, a restroom, study areas (quiet please) and the computers where you can do searches or access your clickup pages. Sorry, emails allowed on this level, also these computers don't have wordprocessing facilities (use Level 3). No eating or drinking please.

"And the rest of the library building?"

Level 1: Theology, Social Sciences and Ancient Languages.
Level 2: Economics and Business Administration.
Level 3: Xerox counter (includes colour printing and copies), Issue Desk, general reference works, Learning Centre, Cyberspace.
Level 4: Study / Reserved Collection (use books for 2 hours only).
Level 5: Natural Sciences and Engineering, Special Collections.

What is Tendo?

Tendo will be my blog which will primarily be used to communicate with my clients. Who are my clients? The first group is the undergraduate students of the Department of Historical & Heritage Studies, as well as the Department of Anthropology and Archaeology. The second group is the postgraduate students of those two departments. Last but not least is the third group, the lecturers. I will concentrate on the students, I don't think academics are really willing to read a librarian's blog! For a start I will attempt to publish my training material. All comments are wellcome! Even from students - and librarians - from other institutions.
